Be careful though not to jump to conclusions because even perfectly legitimate results can look odd at times. Therefore you will need to know how long to run the test before the results are significant. Split testing can be a bit of a head ache but once a couple of tests have been done and your tools are in the right place it gets easier.

 

Secondly, be prepared for unsatisfactory testing results.

It is a fact that most of the changes you make to your landing pages will not help improve your end result. As a rule of thumb if you run 25 split tests, 13 will not show any significant difference, and 6 of the proposed changes will have a negative effect. Which leaves just 6 more to have a positive effect. Leaving you with 6 improvements out of the 25 tests you started with. Another thing to consider is that from 100 ideas you have you will only be able to pick out 25 elements to split test. This is because 75% of the ideas you generate for improving your ad will be things you don’t currently have, or are too expensive or time-consuming or they cannot be combined with other things you want to do with your page.

In short this means that you must generate 100 ideas to get 6 that will actually make a positive difference on your page. Unfortunately this process is normal procedure, but no one will admit it to you. split testing is a great way to increase your profits but it certainly is not as easy as you may have thought.

Thirdly, you will not be able to find all the nuggets by yourself.
There are some changes you can make to landing pages that will make responses explode and finding them is of up most importance. You want to make it start with a check box and make it say Yes “Your Name” I want Your product.

Then directly follow it up with a “I understand that by action today I’m going to solve this pain and get that benefit ECT.”

Then you can even put in bullets of modules of the product.

Directly after recapping your offer make sure to remove the risk by reminding them about your money back guarantee.

Repetition Is Not A Bad Thing

A quick note about how to write copy. You may think it is boring but your goal is to break down mental barriers. So the more they see it repeated the more they buy into because it is reinforced even more.

At the very top of your page you want a preheadline, headline and sub-headline.

Your pre-headline warms people up to the headline and then the sub-headline transitions into the copy by reinforcing what the headline said.

The headline is short and quick. Try to keep your headline around 20-30 words and make it focus on the main benefit. But you still want to have it have an impact.

Then the sub-headline can pick up where the headline leaves off and go a little bit more in depth. It is also a good idea to put an image here that leads the reader to the next phase in a hand writing font while reinforcing scarcity.

You can make it say something like “Grab this special offer not because there are only 20 spots left!” and have some image arrows pointing down that look hand drawn.
The next step is to put a picture of yourself positioned to the left with a date script, a from name (your name) then a RE :Big benefit.

The opening paragraph should start with a drop cap. You know.. like in magazine where the have the BIG first letter.

What this does is basically force people to read the first paragraph. It
should also focus on the main problems, issues or pain that your
market is having. This relates to the reader that the person writing
them the letter knows what they feel and that they can relate to
them. That’s how to write copy!

Write a few paragraphs that focus on the reader’s problems. Really empathize with their
issues and say things like “It’s so frustrating to this problem and deal with that results.” Obviously replace “this problem” and “that result” with a real problem and a real unwanted result.

Imagine If
The next part of your sales copy will transition to a part where you paint the picture of what life could be like. The imaging “if” part. It’s how to write copy that pays the bills.

But the hard part is that everyone wants something different. So you want to focus on what life would be like without their problem.

Just as a side note you want to interject your personality. You don’t want cold dry copy. You want people to read this and like you. Like you too are sitting down over a cup of coffee and just chatting about it.

Tell The Whole Story With Your Sub Headlines

The subheads of the copy should tell the story on their own. When people read sales copy they just scan. So make sure that you have sub headlines that tell the entire story of the copy on their own.

You want a person who is just scanning and reading the big headlines to understand the full story.

So what have you done?

1.You have expressed that you understand their problems.
2.You have provoked the thoughts of “what if your life was like this.”

Then you want to tell them why to listen to you. Why your the guy or gal that can help them. Tell some back story or tell you experience. Compellingly relate to the reader.

“I was once where you are today and here I am with a …” Get them to look to you as an expert.

Transition Into The Product

The next area of your copy is where you introduce the solution to their problem… your product. Give them an irresistible offer.

If you have a direct response sales letter and you want to get more buyers then the easiest way to do this is by applying these tips. These tips will turn more visitors into buyers.

1. Do you have a P.S. at the bottom of your page with a strong call to action?
Adding a P.S. at the bottom of your page helps you capture more buyers because most people won’t read your page. Typically people will read the headline then skip to the bottom of the page.
If you have a strong P.S. you can capture their attention and increase the likely hood of a visitor buying.

The trick is to restate the benefits of your product, what it will help them do, and then simply come out and ask them to order.

2. Another way to increase sales is to use a 365 day money back guarantee.

You will find that the longer the guarantee the less returns you will have and you will also have a better visitor to buyer ratio.

It will also help to draw attention to your guarantee with a red border around a money back guarantee image. It really helps with the sales conversion rate.

3. Another quick tip is to use a favicon.

These are the little images you see at the top of your web browser’s tab. For some reason people are more likely to buy if you have one . Here is the code to put at the top of your page.

4. Use a yellow background for your pre-headline.

At the top of your sales page you will typically have a pre-headline that warms up the visitor to your headline. If you use a yellow backdrop you will grab more attention and the reader is more likely to read the headline.

5. Have you tested the fonts of your headline

Surprisingly enough even fonts can increase your sales conversion rate. Try Impact or Tahoma font at 20pt with a red background (#CC0000). Navy blue and black are also worth testing.

With headlines you want to raise interest and get the person to read the copy. A good way to do this is to highlight the man benefit in your headline with an unusual green font.

Try not to use more than 17 words if possible, capitalize each word and surround your headline in quotes. Like this…

“Here Is How You Can RETIRE From Your Job ASAP”

6. Use a readable font and lots of white space.

New times roman is great for books but it’s hard to read online. Try Arial or Tahoma and make sure to have lots of white space so scanning eyeballs can pick out important parts.

7. Use a drop cap for the beginning of your sales letter.

Did you know drop caps almost forces the reader to read the sales copy? It works so use it.
The term is taken from print magazines and it is the enlarged letter that starts an opening paragraph.

8. Use headlines in your testimonials.

Testimonials are commonly used in sales letters to show through social proof that the product works and other people like it. So give your testimonial a headline.

9. Put a testimonial at the very bottom of the page.

As stated before readers will likely read your headline then jump down to the bottom of the page. If you put a testimonial at the bottom you show them that your product works and other people like it.

10. Have you tried video
Try one of these two options;

Make a sales presentation and put it at the top of the page

In my experience video works very well! The trick is giving them a reason to watch it.

11. Use sub headlines that tell the entire story.

If someone scanned your page and only were to read the sub headlines would they know what your selling and why they need it?

The sub heads should tell the story on their own. Since honestly… who reads copy? I sure don’t. I usually research before I buy or if I buy from a sales letter I usually only read the copy to see what it is that I am buying.

When I read the copy I usually look for product specifications so I know if it will benefit me and if it is something that will help with my plan Internet marketing strategy.

12. Do you have order links between your testimonials?

Putting an order link like “Try it Risk-Free For 365 Days” in between your testimonials will help your sales conversion rate. You can link directly to your payment processor another good thing to split test.

13 . Use an add to cart button.

Just about everyone has ordered something online and yellow “Add To Cart” buttons tend to get a better response than “Download Now.”

14. Use a red dash 4 px border around the order button.

This brings attention to the button and makes it so more people will notice it. This of course increases your sales conversion rate even more.

15. Show the value of your bonuses.

If you have any bonuses put a real world value next to it. Make sure your potential customers see that they are getting a $97 value, or whatever your bonus is worth, for free.

16. Use images that show verification.

I will come right out and say it! It is nearly impossible to build a six figure a month business selling $27 ebooks. Instead, build a front end and a back end.

Here’s the plan.

Make money creating an information product that gives value then build a backend that goes
deep.

Step 1: Finding A Passionate Market

Start by finding a passionate market who are desperate for a solution (find people who are
looking for a solution to a problem).

Good niches Include:

Money Based – Stocks, bonds, trading and make money online are all great niches to get involved in. They all relate to making money.
Health Based – Weight loss and fitness are both great niches to get involved in for legitimate internet businesses.

But a quick tip about niche selection, don’t go to broad (niche down and be specific)

If you try to market to everyone you market to nobody. You need to target your message to a specific sub niche. For example in the heath niche you could market to women over 35 who want to lose belly fat.

Clearly define your demographic. You want to your buyers feel like you create your product directly for them so tailor your product to specific people who need a specific solution.

Up Periscope

I’ve been using the Periscope app to provide daily broadcasts for the past 2 weeks. Below you can read what I learned, but before we get into that, an explanation of Periscope.

imagesPeriscope was bought by Twitter in March this year who relaunched the application on 26 May on iOS. It was released on Android exactly 2 months later. It allows you to live broadcast from your phone or tablet from anywhere; as long as you have a good internet connection. Each broadcast is automatically shared onto Twitter when it starts. As each viewer joins this is announced on screen. Viewers can interact with the broadcaster by typing comments or tapping the screen which creates hearts that float up the screen. Hearts are used to indicate appreciation by the viewer – they are sort of an equivalent to a Facebook Like. The broadcast can be viewed for 24 hours until it is deleted.

Since the beginning of July I have been broadcasting a daily social media tip on each working day covering Facebook, LinkedIn & Twitter. Each Friday I do a weekly wrap of the previous week’s tips, for those that missed them. Over the 2 weeks my audience has grown from 8 live viewers to around 85, with a high of just over a 100 on last week. It is encouraging that I have started to receive questions during broadcasts and more are welcome! Periscope presents a great opportunity for a live Q and A.

Here are my top ten Periscope learning points

 

1.A good internet connection is vital

If the connection is poor the Start Broadcast button doesn’t initialise but I discovered that just because it does, doesn’t mean your connection is good enough. A poor connection will mean freezes during the broadcast which make it frustrating for viewers.

2.Find a quiet environment

A phone or tablet microphone will pick up background noise, so if possible find somewhere quiet to do your broadcast. This is particularly important if you are presenting or running a Q and A.

3.Periscope doesn’t work on Samsung phones

Although there’s no confirmation from Samsung or Periscope it does seems that there’s an issue with the Android app on Samsung phones. I have discovered lots of users with problems of intermittent broadcasts and haven’t found anyone who’s successfully broadcasting on a Samsung. (Update: 8.07.15 – There’s been improvement on my Samsung Galaxy Alpha since last Android update with freezing issue fixed but quality of broadcast via iPad is far superior).

4.Update your profile description

When you sign up to Periscope your profile description is imported from Twitter. To attract more viewers I’d suggest amending to to make it Periscope specific. At present you can only do amend your profile description on the iOS app.

5.Use a hashtag

To make it easier for people to find your broadcasts on Twitter; use a hashtag in your video title which is immediately posted to Twitter when you start broadcasting. At present hashtags don’t work on Periscope, in fact there is no video search but I imagine this will change soon.

6.Use Auto save Broadcasts

I highly recommend checking the Auto save Broadcast option so that all your broadcasts are saved to your device. You’ll then be able to re-purpose your videos such as upload them to YouTube or add to your website.

7.Be ready

When you hit the Start Broadcast button you are live straight away. There’s no countdown or pause so be prepared for this and start talking straight away. It’s also important where you back camera is pointing when the broadcast starts as this opening image is used as the thumbnail when your video is listed.

8.Repeat questions

Comments aren’t viewable on the screen during replays, so for the benefit of replay viewers you should repeat comments, particularly questions, when answering them.

9.Turn on Location Sharing

To attract people from your area and to provide context, make sure that Location Sharing is switched on. This is even more important now that the iOS app has maps showing live users.

10.Switch off Android notifications

It’s not possible to switch off the sounds of Android notifications without switching them off altogether, but you will probably want to do this to avoid being disturbed by sounds in meetings. It’s a shame as you then miss out on notifications of users going live but you can now choose to receive notifications without sound.

What is the single most important thing you can do to insure the success of your website? One of the answers is to choose the right keywords.

imagesWhy is that, with all of the highly effective search engine strategies that we can employ? It’s rather simple. If you don’t choose the right keywords, all of your other strategies won’t help you at all, because those strategies build on top of choosing the right keywords.

Let’s look at it from the point of a view of a searcher. A searcher visits one of the major engines looking for your goods or services. He types in what he considers to be the most important topic, or keyword, for his search. Up come the results, ten per page.

If you haven’t taken time to choose the most effective keyword phrases, you may have done something like use the name of your company as your main keyword. If your company has significant name recognition, like Sony, that’s fine. But, if your company is like the vast majority of companies on the Net, optimising the page for the name of your company has just cost you some business.

Choose the most effective keyword phrase for your page!

How on earth do you choose your important keyword phrases? First off, don’t depend on yourself to choose the right keywords. Your searchers are probably not finding you the same way that you’d think they’d find you. Instead, ask your customers or someone outside of your business what they would type in the search window when looking for your site.

Optimise each page separately.

When working with search engines, consider the focus of each page separately, because the engines do. So, if you want top ranked pages, create content-rich information pages that centre on one or two topics only, and use those fine-tuned topics as your keywords for that page.

Don’t try to optimise a single page for every keyword that’s important to your business. It just won’t work. Instead, create separate content-rich pages and utilize your other keywords in that manner, and bring additional traffic into your site.

Let’s look at some tips on how to choose keywords.

Stay away from general keywords.

Take your keyword ideas and fine tune them based on each page of your website. While it’s tempting to choose very general keywords, like “computers,” don’t do it for a number of reasons.

First off, the competition will be fierce. And, more and more searchers are realizing that they can fine tune their searches and cut out never-ending search results by searching for phrases rather than single keywords.

Also, research has shown that when a searcher wants to purchase something, he conducts extremely fine tuned searches to find it. In other words, if he’s searching for a DVD title by a particular actor, he’ll search for the exact title or under the name of the actor, rather than simply “DVD.”

So, while having a web page that ranks extremely well for a very general keyword seems like the ideal situation, keep in mind that you may get more traffic, but you won’t necessarily get more sales.

Consider your individual goods or services.

imagesSome excellent keyword choices are the names of your individual goods and services. For example, if you’re a professional writer, create pages that advertise your services, such as “ghost writing” or “technical writing.” Creating a page for the very general keyword, “writing,” actually may not get you the business you want.

By the same token, don’t use trademarked terms for your competitors in your tags. Trademark lawsuits are springing up faster than blemishes on a teenager’s face, and you certainly don’t want, or need, to find yourself in the middle of one.

Take a general keyword and add a specific word to it.

If you can only think of very general keywords, start with a list of those keywords, and then add specific words to each one. For example, if you ‘re an artist, take the general keyword of “art” and add a specific word or two to it, based on your particular business. So, your keyword phrases may be “art lessons for children” or “modern art.”

Consider regional keywords.

Does your business cater to a particular region? If you have a restaurant in London, for example, your keyword phrase should contain the name of the city or state.

Different terminology?

Do people from other regions use different terminology when searching for your keyword phrase? If so, utilize that terminology in your tags or on your page, or create a separate page. For example, in the South, people call “shopping carts” that you find in grocery stores “buggies.”

What keywords are your competitors using?

Search for your competitors’ sites and see what keywords they’re using. Do NOT copy their tags or anything else. Simply review their pages to see if they might be using a keyword phrase that could be helpful to you.

Once you’ve determined your keyword phrases, don’t stop there!

As mentioned earlier, just because you think that a keyword phrase is perfect for your page, doesn’t mean that it is.

The bottom line here is, we’re after traffic to our sites. Even more to the point, we’re after paying customers! So, if our keyword phrase is so fine tuned that no one is using it, it will do us no good, even if we have a number one ranking for it.

On the other hand, if our keyword phrase is too general, we may get traffic, but we might not get paying customers.
