Gaining Subscribers With Stumbleupon

Remember on Stumbleupon you are a Stumbler, not a salesman, below are a few ways to gain subscribers with stumbleupon social media platform.

Make sure that your writing is personable and friendly. Do not come across as a salesmen, Stumblers aren’t out looking for things to buy, you need to earn that by first capturing their attention and drawing them in deeper. This is why I suggest writing articles instead of directing them to your front page.  You need to GIVE them something, make them feel that they are benefiting by rating your site and returning to it.

How can I convert a Stumbler into a regular visitor?

One thing you will need to understand right from the start, is that you lose the majority of “Stumbler visitors” once they have reviewed your front page. That being said, StumbleUpon can send you SO much traffic that even if a small percentage are converted into subscribers or regular visitors, it more than makes up for it.
Here is how you can increase your chances of obtaining new regular visitors and opt-in subscribers using Stumble Upon.

Tip 1) Make certain you have an RSS button AND an opt-in email subscription box visible on your landing page.  Don’t clutter it into some side-bar that is difficult to see, make sure it’s upfront and center, surrounded around good, solid content. Also, because a lot of visitors will be scrollers, make sure to have a link to your opt-in box towards the bottom of your landing page as well.

Tip 2) Implore a Call For Action. Either direct them to a product or service using a cloaked affiliate link, send them through a CPA offer, send them to another one of your websites, articles, or blogs – just be sure to prompt them to take action. Don’t leave them wondering what to do next.

Tip 3) If possible, and you have created a customized landing page for your StumbleUpon advertising, personalize it by mentioning StumbleUpon on your page. For example:

“Stumbled Across Any Decent Sites Today?”

They’ll love it, and feel you are part of the community and not just some advertiser. This will increase your conversion rate significantly.

Tip 4) Everyone Loves Contests

Create a contest on your landing page.  Who doesn’t love the chance to win a free digital product, cash, service, etc?  Have them opt-into your subscription box to be entered into your draw. This is an easy way to convert one-time traffic into repeat visitors who want to find out more about the contest or receive updates.

Getting Traffic From StumbleUpon At No Cost

SureFire Method 1

Multiple Accounts For Multiple niches

You should always have one account for each niche market that you intend to target (example, one account for fitness, one account for health, etc).  There are also categories that you can pre-select using StumbleUpon and this is critical for the type of niches that you would like to obtain traffic from. You will need a unique username (which is an email address) for each StumbleUpon account that you create.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you are logged into one StumbleUpon account and you attempt to create another, you will receive a warning advising you that you may lose your original account by creating multiple accounts, so be sure to log out of one account before creating a new one.

Sure-Fire Method 2

Copy Already Successful Stumbled Sites

If you look on a person’s favorite website list you can see what people have recommended in the past.  Use that to your advantage!  You won’t see a lot of squeeze pages or one page sales letters.  Check it out for yourself and see the types of landing pages that are popular and are highly recommended by other members.

Then, create your landing page with the same style or layout.

Sure-Fire Method 3
This is a great way to build your list quickly and people are already doing this on places like YouTube with great results.  To start, create a short video teaser clip and call it Part One, with a link that indicates in order to see Part Two, they need to enter their name and email address into your opt-in form.

Try it out and see how fast you build your list =)

Sure-Fire Method 4

StumbleUpon allows you to join groups and choose friends with similar interests. Be certain to only add friends who are interested in your niche market!
For instance, if you are promoting a Health related blog, you should only add friends who have similar interests listed, since you are able to recommend they visit the sites you stumble (and of course, you are going to Stumble your own. Joining a few groups relating to your subject matter is a great way to obtain instant traffic to your blog. Look for the larger, more popular groups.

Remember, the more friends you have, the more traffic your website will receive, since the more people will view your recommendations and visit your listed sites, but if you want TARGETED traffic (and you should) choosing only those within your niche categories is the only thing that makes sense.

Warning: Be Careful With The Friends You Add!

StumbleUpon restricts the number of friends each of your accounts can have, currently it is a 250 maximum limit, therefore be sure to only add friends from categories that serve your niche market.

Make Money With StumbleUpon:

You can make easy money with StumbleUpon and CPA offers. You can also build your list quickly this way.

Locate good solid CPA offers, and then write interesting articles about the product, prompting them to take action by clicking on your CPA link. I have found that building articles that are focused on “How To” guides, or “Lists (example: Five Sure-fire Ways To Get Traffic, Ten Super-Charged Methods Of Building Profitable Blogs, etc) work best.

Also, limit the number of links on your article page so that the only links visible are ones that will lead them to an offer where you get paid.

 What To Expect:

How many visitors you get will depend on the way you have created your landing page, but on average, expect to receive between 100-8000 daily unique visitors.

STUMBLE EXCHANGES

There are StumbleUpon related exchange programs available where you can create a free account and exchange ‘stumbles’ with other members (you stumble their site, they stumble yours).

Useful Stumbleupon Tips

Ever Wondered How Popular StumbleUpon Is?

stumbleupon logoStumbleUpon is growing at a rapid pace, currently over 5 million members, and considering eBay and Google were in a bidding war to obtain the site, you might say it’s rather popular.

However, the potential for targeted, organic and steady traffic with StumbleUpon is quite under-estimated, especially by newer bloggers who aren’t aware of just how feasible social networks like StumbleUpon really is.

Don’t make the same mistake.  An ad campaign doesn’t have to have loads of activity to become a popular choice by Stumblers.  All you need are a handful of “Thumbs Up” to reach hundreds of visitors.

The key is to focus on designing your website so that it attracts your Stumbler visitors within the first few seconds of their landing on your page. Sometimes, that’s all the time you have to make an impression and encourage them to vote for you, or to return to your site.

ready to stumble
Here are some tips that will help you capture their attention:

Tip #1:  Clearly Define Your Blogs Subject Matter

You need to be clear about the subject matter of your blog. If your blog looks cluttered, or has too many categories, it could confuse the visitor and end up costing you a vote. Be exceptionally clear about what your blog is about.  If your visitor can see exactly what your blog is about within the first few minutes of visiting, they are more likely to stay and look around, not to mention return to your site.

Tip #2: Eye Candy

Every aspect of your blog is important, especially the header.  That is one of the first things your visitors see.  Make sure it is crisp and attractive. If you are unable to create a customized header yourself, hire a graphic designer to do it for you – it’s THAT important.

This also goes with your blog’s theme template. You want one that actually represents the subject of your blog but is also attractive and professional.  Don’t use the theme that comes by default with your blog, take the time to scout out an alternative replacement so that your blog appears to be unique.

Tip #3: Content Is King

Don’t start advertising your blog until you have enough content to justify a visit. You want your visitor to spend as much time on your site as possible, so be sure to include at least a few categories and at least two weeks worth of content, to start.

Tip #4: Pretend You Have A Captive Audience

Be sure to put your best effort into your blog.  Even while you might feel as though you are talking to yourself when you first create your blog (and most likely you are), remember that every article, every bit of content that you publish must be interesting to those in your niche.

Do not skip this by plugging in saturated PLR articles that you purchased somewhere. Take the time to write your own stuff, people WILL notice the difference.

If you follow these tips you WILL increase your chances of having a successful advertising campaign with StumbleUpon.  Taking the time to create the best blog possible will indicate to your Stumbler-Visitors that your blog is a useful resource that is both informative and unique. If they feel they can get the same information elsewhere, why would they stay at your site?
Tip #5: Copy From Those That “Do”

Check out what types of headlines the most popular sites in your niche market are using and simply design your headline to use a similar style.

Don’t Just Pay For Traffic – Earn It

You don’t want to continuously purchase traffic via StumbleUpon that should never be your ultimate goal. Instead, you should utilize the advertising services there to jumpstart your blog traffic with the goal being to encourage Stumblers to vote for you, which will in turn, push other visitors to your site, for free.

Some bloggers fail to do this and end up paying for traffic longer than they would need to, if they just focused on creating a useful blog.  Even though the advertising costs are lower than typical PPC campaigns, you can save a ton of cash if you make your blog worthy of a stumble.

Set your blog in motion and watch the traffic continue to pour in, day after day!

Catch Them Before The Next Stumble

Since stumblers are similar to television channel surfers, you might not be able to hold their attention for long, no matter how compelling or interesting your content may be.  To get the most out of their visit, offer a subscription form on your site where you offer a free report, eCourse, something – Anything – to encourage them to leave their information.

That way, you can work on growing your list as well as growing your site.

Your subscription box should be placed in a highly visible area of your blog. You should also utilize graphics, or compelling headlines to make sure it’s noticed.

Take Baby Steps

stumble journeyDon’t spend a ton of cash on your first StumbleUpon ad campaign, instead, test your ad copy with just a small spend. Once you see it working, you can increase your daily budget.

Be sure to pay attention to the available stats to determine how many people voted for your site and continuously tweak it for the best performance you can get out of it.  Testing isn’t fun but it’s important because you want to get the most votes you can. Once you are consistently receiving votes, you will start receiving a flood of organic traffic and when that happens, be prepared to pause your campaign before you purchase traffic for nothing.

What To Avoid

Some bloggers believe that sending Stumblers to the very front page of their blog is the best choice, when advertising with StumbleUpon.  I would suggest that instead; create a landing page specifically for each campaign. If Stumblers have to seek out solid content, they’ll be gone before you know it, assuming it’s a paid advertisement or sales pitch.

Solution:

Choose a thread or page that carefully relates to your specific group of visitors (using categories and demographics), and choose a post that you feel is absolutely compelling. Make it spicy, entertaining, controversial, whatever you have to do to make that page stick and become ‘viral’.

Also remember to add your sites to StumbleUpon by creating an ‘alias’ account and Stumbling onto your own pages, after first checking to see if they have already been Stumbled.

10 Steps to Reddit Marketing Success

There are 10 steps you need to follow to be successful on Reddit. Skipping even one of these can ruin your reputation on the site, or risk getting you banned.

imagesFollow these steps closely and you will have the power to send thousands of visitors to your site on
demand.

Beginner Steps:

1. Keep It Relevant

If you want to get large amounts of traffic from reddit, you have to keep your posts highly relevant to the users.

This means that the more that you can tailor your posts to the subreddit that you’re posting in, the better. Avoid
posting content that addresses too broad of an audience.

This requires you to do a little bit of research into your subreddit and see what kinds of posts are already popular.
Get a feel for your audience there. Then you will be more equipped to create a popular post of your own.

If the end goal of your site is to sell a product or get subscribers, you will need to do some customer development
first.

This will ensure that you’re in touch with what your audience wants, while saving you a ton of time in the long run.

2. Only Post Great Content

Only post your best content on reddit!

Short and generic content will not perform well. It will also get down-voted and you’ll lose any valuable reputation
points (karma) that you have.

Only post content that is in-depth, unique, well-written, helpful and actionable. Wherever you post your article,
reddit users are going to click on it to check it out. What they think of it (either upvote or down vote) will dictate
your results.

3. No Double Dipping

When you log in to your analytics account and see that spike in traffic and realise: “Oh yeah, I posted on reddit

and it only took me 2 seconds!”

Usually the next natural thought is “I should be doing this all the time!”

But that’s where you can get yourself in trouble. Stay out of “hot” areas. This means that if you just posted a link
in a sub-reddit, let it rest for a while! I usually wait 2 weeks to a month before I post another link of my own in the
same sub-reddit.

4. Have fun

This is possibly the most important point on the list that impatient marketers overlook.

This is why ‘the other guys’ are terrible at getting traffic from reddit.

You need to be a normal reddit user.

Remember, you can’t be a marketer, you have to be a redditor.

Interact with the rest of the site. Build up a post history that shows that you’re a normal user. Build up your karma
points by posting helpful or funny comments on other posts.

Does this mean that you’re going to have to spend hours on end seemingly wasting time on the site?

No way!

All it takes is about 10 minutes a week talking about your favorite subjects or commenting on some of those
funny GIF images. The interesting thing about reddit users is that they are generally very passionate about the
site.

If they think that they smell a “marketer,” they WILL go and look at your post history and see if your posting
pattern confirms their suspicion. If you have a good amount of normal posts, you will prove them wrong!

Not to mention “having fun” on sub-reddits relevant to your niche will give you a sense of what posts are popular
there, so you can model them to create popular posts of your own.

Advanced Steps:

imagesFollow these steps and they will allow you to keep a positive reputation on reddit and sustain the above results.

5. Address the Concerns of the Community Before They Have Them

Steps 1-4 can get you far, but if you want to take it to the next level (which I’m sure you do) you can’t stop there!

Addressing the community’s concerns before they have them ties in with step 4 on the list. If you post links to
your site on reddit, there will be a lot of users that will to try to find an excuse to down vote your posts, report you
to moderators, bad mouth you etc.

What you have to do is beat them to the punch and address all of their concerns before they can get a word in.

You can use text posts to help you promote something. The idea is to provide value and explain yourself before
you ask users to click through to your site. You can be honest about the content being yours as long as it is
genuinely helpful.

Posting Udemy courses in the entrepreneur subreddit has been a hot topic lately. So many of the users there
complain because people make terrible courses and spam the entrepreneur sub-reddit. There are some posts like
this that are actually valuable content but many users want to ban these types of threads and down vote them
viciously.

Even in the midst of all of that trouble, by using this technique I managed to attract zero negative comments, and
make the controversial list because lots of users were upvoting, while others were down voting. In the end,
making the controversial list only got me more traffic. More on that a little later.

6. Don’t Ever Let Your First (or second) Post be a Promotion

This should go without saying, but if you’re new to a sub-reddit, be sure to post a few other things in that there first
before you decide to promote anything of your own. I made this point short, since the last one was so long.

7. Don’t Over-Promote.

You may think that if you don’t promote your site repeatedly in the same Subreddit that you’ll be fine. But this is
yet another big reddit no-no.

reddit moderators and users can see your site-wide activity.

Not to mention that they have automatic spam filters.

If you post links to the same domain name too often you run a huge risk. reddit has automatic spam filters which will
blacklist your domain, so that if ANYONE posts it, it won’t show up. They can also “ghost” your account which is
a special kind of punishment for spammers. Getting ghosted means that none of your posts ever show up to
anyone but you. So you can post as much as you want, but they will never show up to anyone else.

Don’t abuse the system, and you’ll be safe. Reddit is a great source of content for everyone. If users see
something of value, they will share it.

Pro Tips

8. Share Your New Posts With Your Friends

reddit upvotingEven if you do not have a team, you should still have a group of people or a network that you can share your
content with. This step entails you sending your new reddit posts to your friends (or Twitter followers) that are also
reddit users. If they like what you posted, they’ll give you an upvote, which will attract other reddit users, and get
the ball rolling for your post to get very popular.

Whenever I post anything on reddit, I immediately send it to a few of my friends that are on reddit. This popular
post of mine, started with just a few upvotes, by the first people that I sent it to.

Once it was upvoted, other redditors knew that the post was worth their time to check out.

9. Comment and Reply to Everyone

Activity on your reddit post breeds more activity.

This means that when someone comments on your post, reply to their comment to double the comment count.
When posts have lots of comments, it gets more redditors to click on your post, and join the conversation.

You can even be the first one to comment on a link that you post. I’ve used this method before to explain the
content that I’ve posted and get the conversation started. With the same post above, I’ve stayed very active in the
comments, to add lots of activity to the thread.

10. Be Humble

Most people take criticism on their post as a bad thing. But you can use it as one of your biggest advantages.

Here’s how:

When you post and reply to comments, be sure to keep your tone humble.

Not only will this help you with number 5 on the list (Address the Concerns of the Community Before They Have
Them), it will also help you to get better at using reddit to drive traffic and customers to your website. When you
reply to comments, be sure to learn as much from your commenters as you can.

If they criticise you use their criticism to ask questions.

State that you actively follow the rules, and that you aim to add value to the community.

The reddit self promotion guidelines they state: “It’s perfectly fine to be a redditor with a website, it’s not okay to
be a website with a reddit account.”

If you follow this checklist, you will be following the rules of reddit.

Remind the community of this, and ask how you can better contribute your content. You’ll be surprised how much
the commentators will help you get better at promoting your content.

I practice this in all of my posts, and it has allowed me to keep a very positive reputation on reddit, while learning
how to get better at driving traffic to my sites.

SocialAdr Review

Welcome to my SocialAdr Review where I will be discussing exactly what SocialAdr really is and who can benefit from using this simple tool.

But before I go into my SocialAdr Review, let me tell you that in my opinion it is an incredible tool for SEO. I have been using it comprehensively in my marketing strategies and I am exceptionally overwhelmed with the results.

What is SocialAdr?

SocialAdr is a social media marketing service that makes social bookmarking and networking links from real, high PR, high traffic websites. SocialAdr tool has been used by internet marketers since 2009 and has endured all Google updates. It is fully powered through submission from real people. The software allows you to advertise your site, in order for you to have increased ranking in the search engines for several keywords or phrases.

Today’s search engines are more expected to like links from modern day social based sites, which are frequently utilised by a lot of people. Actually, it is significant to the search engines that they only produce appropriate results from sites often browsed by people.

A webpage success is most likely attained in being top of the search engine rankings, and in order for you to do this, you must be proficient in optimising your websites.

Why SocialAdr is Better Than Any Other Services

You might be having issues in your mind that this service is merely the same with other tools presented in the web today. However, you are would be wrong for underestimating its capabilities. I have here some reasons why SocialAdr is far better than any other service.

Sites which are utilised by SocialAdr  are all of outstanding quality. It is truly not a network which are uncommon to other tools. These are ancient, high PR domains with thousands and even millions of real, active users.

Different from several social bookmarking services that merely uphold 1-3 or 5 accounts for each website at best, with SocialAdr your bookmark gets shared on hundreds of unique accounts which leaves insignificant footprint if any.

Each user is permitted to share only 5 bookmarks per account daily. This limitation makes every account look more genuine and lessens the possibility of accounts getting banned and your links being deleted. All bookmarking accounts get continually pinged for faster indexing which indicates that Google will determine your links much quicker.

Is SocialAdr Safe?

This is the ultimate answer to this question, which people keep asking over and over again: Yes, SocialAdr is guaranteed safe today. For all we know, even utilising WordPress can stop being safe, if Google chooses so. Not even their own technicians can give any guarantee, because what’s approved as a white hat method one day gets branded as black hat the one after. Guest blogging is a perfect example to keep in mind to this concern.

SocialAdr links are faultlessly safe to use and have very positive effects. If the service becomes very widespread and more people begin consuming it, I wouldn’t be shocked if Google pick to penalise it. I presumed that the genuine question should be this: Can Google detect Social Adr links? I have here some points on this:

Majority of Social Adr’s links are no-follow. No follow links are very significant to attain search engine rankings. Although Google says otherwise, please stick with what you know. It is Google’s rule to not target no-follow links with their algos. Thus your no-follow links should, be harmless from any penalties. I said should because there is very little possibility that Google will start targeting no-follow links, but still, I don’t work for them, thus can’t put my hand on fire.

Great For Creating Backlinks

SocialAdr is simple to setup. Go to the “Bookmarks” tab and then “Add Bookmark”. There are 2 options, Easy and Advanced. You may choose Advanced mode just like I always do because it gives you more control over your campaigns.

The next thing to do is to, write in your URL, title, description, tags and category. Title and description can be spun. I highly suggest you do this for every bookmark! After, choose your submission rate or put in a submission limit and hit “Save”.

For the submission rate, there are 4 options; Drip(once per week), Slow (once every 2 days), Normal (2-3 times per day), Fast (8 times per day). Every submission gives you 1-23 bookmarks, so if you choose “Normal” you can get up to 69 bookmarks in one day. Instead of utilising submission rate you can set a submission limit. Your bookmark will then be shared the number of times you have chosen after which the campaign will end.

In the “My Bookmarks”section, you can check all of your current campaign. Here in this section, it’s possible for you to edit your bookmark, pause or resume your campaigns, see real-time reports, and change your submission rates and limits.
socialadr control panel

Each bookmark has a submission limit anywhere from 200-3000 after which it gets archived.
Of course, you will have always the chance to delete any campaign at any time however your bookmarks don’t truly get deleted. Whenever you would like to run the campaign again, just go to “Deleted Bookmarks” on the bottom of the page, click green “UNDO” button beside any bookmark and it will re-appear in your account.

SocialAdr utilises the principle of reciprocity to give an automated social bookmarking technique for back links and traffic in order for you to make your post, articles and pages get ranked and indexed by search engines quicker. SocialAdr could eventually restore the way you bookmark as it promotes your content to a mix famous social networking, micro blogging, and social bookmarking sites.

What Can Social Bookmarking Do For Me?

Social bookmarking is not just about saving your favourite websites and sending them to your connections, however it also allow you to look at what other people have seen appealing enough to tag. Majority of social bookmarking sites let you to browse through the items based on most trendy, recently added, or belonging to a particular category such as shopping, technology, politics, blogging, news, sports, etc.

You may as well search through what people have bookmarked by simply typing in what you are looking for in the search tool. Actually, social bookmarking sites are being used as intelligent search engines.

Here are some social bookmarking benefits:

social media marketing services Being listed on a social bookmarking site can drive quality traffic: Websites like Digg and Del.icio.us represent the opportunity to get a lot of new traffic to your website. In fact these sites offer best type of visitors: viral traffic. People who reach your site from a social bookmarking site are generally there because your Web site appeared in a search for topics they were interested in. Beware – some of the social bookmarking sites will mark links out to other sites as “nofollow”. This tells search engines not to follow the link, and so you won’t reap any benefit from additional links! Search engines will frequently list results from bookmarking sites. Therefore if your site is bookmarked, this is an extra opportunity to show up in search results.

Being featured on one bookmarking site can often lead to people tagging your site on other bookmarking sites. This may sound rather weird; however people who bookmark may use more than one bookmarking site. If you are fortunate they may find you through one site and bookmark you on another, which is a big opportunity for web site advertising. Increase traffic by adding social bookmarking buttons to your website, adding social bookmark links to your blog or web site makes it easier for readers to save and share your content, and consequently for others to find it.

How much SocialAdr costs?

There is a free version and a paid version.

If you own a blog, and you are constantly creating content or videos, then you must go for paid service options in order for you to have enough quantity and wider range of bookmarking backlinks. This is a service worth paying for, because you could basically see the real difference to your rankings. The ‘Lazy Link Builder’ price plan would be just fine for several people. You can always change your subscription, whether upgrade or downgrade it depending on your choice.

If you’ve got your website done, and SEO optimised, but do not see it in search engines, you have to think it right! Today is your right time to join Social Adr. It is your best access to quality and guaranteed backlinks!

I highly recommend this tool especially to those searching to invest in their business to increase rankings.

Social Media Choices

The concepts behind social media networking is not anything new, we have always been looking for ways to connect, engage and network with one another but they have taken on an entirely new meaning as well as momentum in the digital age. Where we used to have handshakes, word-of-mouth referrals, and stamped letters, todays relationships are often begun and developed on LinkedIn, Google +, and Facebook.

That means savvy business owners have to know and use a variety of social platforms to stay relevant and up to date, not to mention take advantage of emerging opportunities. Below, you will find what I consider to be some the most important channels and tools you need to be aware of.

1.Twitter Twitter. Perhaps the simplest of all social media platforms, Twitter also just happens to be one of the most fun and interesting. Messages are limited to 140 characters or less, but that’s more than enough to post a link, share an image, or even trade thoughts with friends ect. Twitters interface is easy to learn and use, and setting up a new profile only takes a few minutes.

2.Facebook Facebook. Considered to be synonymous with “social media” by some, Facebook is the one site where you’re likely to find friends, colleagues, and relatives all floating around. Although Facebook is mainly centered around sharing photos, links, and quick thoughts of a personal nature, individuals can also show their support to brands or organisations by becoming fans.

3.LinkedIn LinkedIn. One of the only mainstream social media sites that’s actually geared towards business, LinkedIn is to cyberspace what networking groups once were to local business communities. It is great for meeting customers, getting in touch with vendors, recruiting new employees, and keeping up with the latest in business or industry news. If it matters to your company or career, you can probably do it on LinkedIn.

4. Image result for xing icon imageXing. Another professional networking and recruitment site, Xing has the global presence and focus that LinkedIn lacks. Although it can be mistaken for a job search portal, the site actually has a number of features and communities that make it easy to develop relationships with suppliers, colleagues and even thought leaders within industry.

5. imagesRenren. Literally translating into “everyone’s website,” Renren is China’s largest social platform. Hugely popular with the younger crowd, it works in a way similar to Facebook, allowing users to share quick thoughts, update their moods, connect with others, and add posts or ideas to a blog-like stream.

6. Google+Google+. Social media’s big up-and-comer has really arrived over the past few years. By combining the best of Facebook and Twitter into one site – and backing it by the power of the world’s largest search engine, Google has given users a social site that has a little something for everyone. You can add new content, highlight topics with hashtags, and even separate contacts into circles. And, a G+ profile only takes a few minutes to get set up.

7. Disqus. Disqus isn’t actually a social media platform so much as a social engagement platform, but it can definitely help you improve your social engagement. As a tool for commenting, managing feedback on your own website (or other Disqus-enabled websites), and managing spam/troll type messages, it’s invaluable. Advanced features allow for social monitoring and upvoting.

8. LinkedIn Pulse. Even though Pulse is technically a part of LinkedIn, it’s big and important enough to deserve its own entry. Serving as something between a blog and “best of” outlet, it’s the perfect medium sharing new ideas and keeping up on the thought leaders in your industry.

9. Snapchat. This surprisingly-addictive app gives you the ability to take a picture, add art and text if you’d like, and then send it to recipients for a set amount of time (after which the photo will delete itself and be removed from the company’s servers). Lots of fun, and potentially a good way to stay in touch with friends.

10. TumblrTumblr. This platform is different form many others in that it essentially hosts microblogs for its users. Individuals and companies, in turn, can fill their blogs with multimedia (like images and short video clips). The fast-paced nature of Tumblr makes it ideal for memes, GIF’s, and other forms of fun or viral content.

11.Pinterest Pinterest. Serving as a giant virtual idea and inspiration board, Pinterest has made a huge impact on social media in the last few years. Especially popular with women and the do-it-yourself crowd, it lets you share pictures, creative thoughts, or (especially) before-and-after pictures of projects that others can pin, save, or duplicate.

The Social Media Quick Step

Social media is more than just a fun way to engage and communicate with friends & family. It is an extremely powerful business marketing tool if strategically implemented correctly.

A common mistake businesses make is failing to develop a formal social media plan. Having a plan for social media is just as important as it is any marketing strategy. A savvy business owner does not buy traditional advertising without developing a plan, and the same applies with social media.

A social media marketing plan includes many of the same elements of a traditional marketing plan. Research into target markets and consumer purchasing is a must. Identifying brand strengths and weaknesses is also important.

Once you’ve conducted research, it is time to start outlining strategies and developing your plan.

Below is a social media marketing strategy plan.

1. Identify a social media manager

With the many tasks involved with running a successful business, social media can fall by the wayside. Before your business embarks on a social media campaign, it is a good practice to identify a person or multiple people who will be in charge of monitoring and posting content. It is important for the social media manager to not only ensure content is posted on a regular basis, but also monitor and respond to all comments and feedback. The assigned staff should be willing to monitor the company’s social pages 24/7, which can be easily accomplished through e-mail alerts and mobile apps.

2. Create branded pages

Once you have identified your manager, it’s time to create branded pages. First, determine which social media sites you want to use. Small businesses should consider Facebook, Twitter and Google+ at the very least. In some cases, other sites including LinkedIn, Pinterest and Houzz may also be appropriate. It is important for all of your social media to have the same look and feel as your company website. Facebook cover pages do have some flexibility and allow you to have some very specific elements can be incorporated for maximum impact:

Use colour and photos
Integrate your profile picture into your cover
Incorporate a call to action
Point out where people can call or contact you

After you create your social pages, be sure to include links on your website and invite all of your customers and friends to join your pages.

3. Develop a planning calendar

Now that your social sites are “live”, it is time to start developing a planning calendar. Ideally, this should be done on a monthly basis. Your planning calendar may outline the following: Number of posts per week,
Time the post will be made, you should vary your posting times, Identify content for each post.

A planning calendar lays the foundation and ensures you are maintaining your social sites and posting on a regular basis. Of course, you can also post other news, tips and ideas as they arise. The biggest pitfall businesses run into are they generally have a lot of excitement when they first establish their social media presence, but the momentum quickly fades. Having a monthly planning calendar will help keep your social media efforts moving forward.

4. Generate engaging content

Now that you have identified a manager, set up your pages, and developed a planning calendar, it is time to

start generating engaging content. Once you generate content, you can plug it into the dates/times you have reserved on your social media calendar to compose posts. As you consider content, think outside of your company and put yourself in your customer’s shoes. What type of information is not only engaging, but is something followers would like to share? Creating sharable content is one of the quickest ways to pick up new followers.

Let’s take a look at some content ideas:

Weekly tips and advice
Post something humorous (in good taste)
Highlight and recognize your customers
Incorporate “social media” only offers
Be interactive – ask questions people will want to answer
Photos and videos
Coupons and contests
Product overviews
“How To” videos
Sales and special events

Remember, maintaining the attention of your followers will keep them engaged.

5. Monitor responses and track your results

It is imperative to monitor all comments and respond in a timely manner. Good or bad, all feedback needs to be addressed. If someone praises your product and/or service, thank them. If they have a complaint or concern, reach out to them. It is important to investigate the validity of the negative comment and address it immediately. Customer feedback can help you better understand reaction to your products and/or services. Also be sure to incorporate a good tracking system. This can really provide important insight into your customers and their behavior. Companies such as Global Response provide excellent outsourced social media analytics programs that can be easily incorporated and integrated into your social strategy.
6. Use results to better understand consumer behavior

What better way to gauge customer demand than to ask them yourselves? Don’t be afraid to engage your followers and get their opinions. Doing so can help identify both areas of strength and weakness. As we discussed earlier, prompt response to comments is key to developing a relationship with your followers. Even big box stores work to maintain open and responsive communication with their followers: I find in my marketing practice, social media intimidates many small businesses. If you approach it like any other form of marketing and develop a plan, it can become a very useful and effective tool which complements your traditional marketing strategies.

Here are 9 things you may not know about social media.

1. A social media strategy, guidelines and a system for handling negative comments are the first steps to mastering social media.

2. Facebook’s algorithm means that only an estimated 10 per cent of your Company Page updates are seen by the people who like your page. This percentage has a better chance of increasing if you post regularly, and your fans ‘like’, ‘comment’ and ‘share’ your content. Or you can always fork out money to boost your posts, but this can get expensive.

3. Twitter’s Advanced Search lets you find tweets on a topic within a certain radius.

4. LinkedIn lets you keep information about the people in your network. You can add ‘how you met’, set ‘reminders’ like birthdays or follow up calls, and also add ‘notes’ and ‘tags’.

5. The three main formats of YouTube videos that you can create are ‘talking head’ (like on the news), ‘interviews’ (via Skype or in person) and ‘screenshare’ videos.

6. Google+ has made a change to its ‘authorship’ system. Your headshot no longer appears in the Google search results, but your name still does.

7. You can get super creative with Instagram. There are cool free apps (like Photo Editor) and paid apps (like WordSwag) that let you overlay words onto your pics.

8. Pinners (aka people on Pinterest) absolutely love infographics. Try publishing one yourself and see how many backlinks and social media shares you get. Ask your designer, or else try oDesk, Elance or Fiverr if you’ve got a tight budget.

9. Tools like Feedly, Buffer and Hootsuite make social media a breeze. Follow your favourite blogs with Feedly, schedule your social media updates with Buffer and monitor your accounts with Hootsuite.

Social Bookmarking Made Easy

If you are any kind of marketer online then you should know by now the importance of social bookmarking.

Its not just about facebook likes and how many friends you have either.

I heard about SocialAdr from a friend of mine but was hesitant at first because it sounded too good to be true. She told me, “All you have to do is enter your bookmark details and other members submit your bookmarks to their accounts automatically. It literally takes 5 minutes to get setup.”

So I figured I might as well give it a try.

I signed up for the ‘Free’ account and found the Setup Wizard super easy to use. With the ‘Free’ account you have to setup all your own social bookmarking accounts (only once though) in order to get started. Next, I shared 5 other members’ bookmarks, which was as simple as clicking a single button. I had to do this first in order to earn “credits” which can then be spent when other members share my bookmarks. Then I added a couple of my own bookmarks and a short while later started receiving notification that they had been submitted to a list of social bookmarking services.

Wow. And this was just with the ‘Free’ account!

I was impressed.

It was clear to me that the paid accounts were worth it, so I upgraded to the ‘Lazy Linkaholic’ package (1.6 cents per backlink!). With the ‘Lazy’ account types you don’t have to do any sharing, all you do is enter your own bookmark details, it’s that easy.

It’s been about 2 weeks now and I’ve received thousands of backlinks on autopilot.

If you’re like me and know good value when you see it, you should definitely give SocialAdr a try right now for all your social bookmarking needs.
